Are there any straight drag queens?

Publish date: 2024-06-14

I know there are heterosexual men who like to dress as women, but do they go full drag with the drag name and the campy glamour?

by Anonymousreply 46December 30, 2018 4:49 PM

Just once, I did it. As a joke.

by Anonymousreply 1December 22, 2018 9:14 PM

Well, at least one of them, r3!

by Anonymousreply 5December 22, 2018 9:21 PM

Ladies and esteemed Princeton gentlemen, please help me welcome to the Triangle Club stage, Miss Frances Scott Key Fitzgerald.

I mean do the comedians count. Like Madea and Mrs. Doubtfire?

The mother from Hairspray?

by Anonymousreply 7December 22, 2018 9:29 PM

Isn't Jasmine Masters straight? And Farrah Moan? What about him?

Name ONE straight person who has played that role!

R11 Rudy Giuliani had a drag name. Anyone remember what it was?

by Anonymousreply 13December 22, 2018 9:53 PM

One of my friends from college (We weren't SUPER close but he was definitely part of my broader friend group) dresses in drag frequently and is straight. He did it as a "joke" for years but now is fairly open about it. And I really do believe he is straight. I wasn't the only out guy in our friend group and his parents are SUPER open minded. I think he would just come out if he was gay

by Anonymousreply 17December 22, 2018 10:50 PM

There are probably more strIght men in drag than gay men.

by Anonymousreply 18December 22, 2018 10:55 PM

It's a slippery slope. The more you "feel like a woman", the greater desire for a man to treat you like one.

by Anonymousreply 19December 22, 2018 10:57 PM

R17, perhaps your friend is trans?

by Anonymousreply 21December 22, 2018 11:04 PM

Alex Reid in the pic at R14 is bisexual and a bottom

This guy Vin Welch is apparently 'Straight' though. He's the Father of a British Actress Denise Welch and the Grandfather of her son Matt Healy of the band 1975.

Denise Welch's ex Husband Tim Healy also spent the past 5 years in Drag in the British Tv show Benidorm.

R21 Of course it's possible, I just don't think so. He has spoken with me about it (back when it was a a "joke", not since he started doing shows) and he seems to just really enjoy the outfits and wigs.

by Anonymousreply 25December 22, 2018 11:18 PM

Apparently Brendan O'Carroll at R23 is and has 4 children.

As was Arthur Lucan who played 'Old Mother Riley'. He's pictured below with his Wife Kitty McShane. They had one Son.

There's been one or two straight drag queens on RuPaul's Drag Race, I think. Or maybe I'm confusing it with a couple straight male designers on Project Runway. Anyway, it's a job and straight guys can do it too.

by Anonymousreply 28December 22, 2018 11:28 PM

You have to slightly differentiate between 'Drag Queen' and 'Pantomime Dame' in the British tradition though.

As a rule A Pantomime Dame is [BOLD] 'A Cock in a Frock'. [/BOLD] Drag Queens are generally Gay.

by Anonymousreply 29December 22, 2018 11:31 PM

I think drag needs redefinition or a rethink. Because trans woman participating in drag or drag race holds zero logic. Drag is cross dressing meaning dressing against your identified gender. What a mess. I think the fact no ones addressing this is because perhaps drag really is just socially acceptable trans behavior. Like gays who first identify as bi, trans is phase one.

by Anonymousreply 31December 22, 2018 11:44 PM

I disagree, drag is about playing a character. Focusing too much on gender misses the point I think

by Anonymousreply 32December 22, 2018 11:51 PM

Well I guess it depends on what you consider 'straight' and what you consider 'drag'. 10 years ago many people would have said eddie Izard. but he has since come out as trans. He is 'straight' sexually and likes to dress as a woman. I suspect the same is for Dame Edna; attracted to women, but used the 'character' as a way to express his desire to be female. Lots of these types work between the borders of 'drag' and just straight up cross-dressing. Alex Reid and Oscar De la hoya cross dress and may be repressed trans women. Lots of them live 'straight' lives and perfer women way more, but get off on being submissive bottoms for men. odd bunch.

R35 It depends what you consider consider means

by Anonymousreply 36December 23, 2018 2:28 AM

R36 what an awesome addition to the conversation, you ugly fuck.

by Anonymousreply 37December 23, 2018 2:38 AM

I'm guessing the next season of Drag Race will have at least one trans contestant and one "bio-queen"

by Anonymousreply 38December 24, 2018 6:48 AM

There's a trans contestant on All stars right now R38. And she was on another season before this

by Anonymousreply 39December 26, 2018 11:48 PM

If it means getting another Vanity Fair cover story and another feature interview on 20/20, then consider me a drag queen.

by Anonymousreply 40December 27, 2018 12:06 AM

Glennie tried to pull off drag (emphasis on "tried"), but emerged, alas, with no hardware for her efforts.

by Anonymousreply 41December 27, 2018 12:10 AM

No. Straight crossdressers are autogynophiles mainly, who dress up as women as part of their lesbian fantasy, then fuck themselves with a dildo in front of the mirror or call a dominatrix to come over and peg them in a rape fantasy.

by Anonymousreply 43December 30, 2018 2:14 PM

Miss Emily Howard, Britain's least convincing transvestite.

No self respecting straight male will be caught dragging. Most of those men are sexually confused bisexuals.

No, he's stated that he's trans. He's been seen with Caitlyn.
